A Gantt chart is the standard project timeline: one bar per task, positioned by start date and sized by duration, with the task list down the left. The Gantt Chart for Power BI puts that schedule inside the report, beside the budget, resourcing and risk visuals it usually lives apart from, and it stays current as the data refreshes.
Feed it a task table with a Start date and an End date and you have a timeline. Add a Task ID and a Predecessor ID and the visual draws dependency arrows. Tasks can nest into projects, phases and sub-tasks, so the same chart serves as a work breakdown structure with a summary bar for each level. Progress, milestones, owners and extra columns are separate fields, so a simple roadmap and a full PMO schedule use the same visual.
It is Microsoft-certified, so the report exports to PowerPoint and PDF and works in email subscriptions.

Nest tasks up to ten levels deep with expand and collapse, and automatic summary bars spanning their children.
Timeline and zoom
Switch between Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year or Auto Fit, and scroll to Start, Today or End on load.
Progress tracking
Show actual against planned progress, a completion percentage, and checkmarks on finished tasks.
Milestones
Plot up to five date columns per task as circles, diamonds, squares, triangles or stars.
Dependencies
Draw arrows between tasks from a predecessor list, so the critical path is visible at a glance.
Owners and extra columns
Show task owners as initials in a coloured circle, with up to three extra data columns beside the task list.
