A bump chart, sometimes called a rank chart or ranking line chart, plots position rather than value. Five products can all grow at once, and a line chart of their sales shows five rising lines. Plot their rank instead and the lines cross only where one product overtook another, which is the question a sales leaderboard or a market-share review is asking.
ChartPad’s Bump Chart for Power BI gives each period exactly one slot per rank, so a tie cannot leave two lines on the same row. Bind a Series, a Value and a Time field and the visual computes the rank per period. Top N filtering keeps a chart of fifty brands readable by drawing only the leaders, and the rest drop out without changing the ranks of the lines that remain.
