Bump Chart

Who overtook whom, and when

Track how rankings change over time. Each entity holds one rank per period, and the crossings show exactly where positions were traded.

Bump Chart

Illustration of the visual's layout.

A line chart of values answers “how much”. A bump chart answers “what position” — and those are different questions. When five products all grow, the line chart shows five rising lines; the bump chart shows which one passed which.

Each period holds one slot per rank, so lines can only cross by an entity genuinely overtaking another. Top N filtering keeps the picture legible when the underlying set is large.

Capabilities

  • Rank over time

Plot each series' position per period with smooth or linear connections between ranks.

  • Top N filtering

Focus on the leading performers and drop the long tail, so the crossings stay readable.

  • Smart labels

Position entity labels at the start, the end or both, so lines are identifiable without a legend hunt.

  • Marker and line control

Adjust marker shape and size, line weight, curvature and per-series colours.

How licensing worksNothing is locked — a license removes the on-visual notice.

Free to try, in full
Build, test and demo everything the visual does. No feature is locked or hidden behind a license.
A license removes the notice
Unlicensed visuals show a small notification in published reports, to editors and viewers alike. Licensing removes it.
Licensed per user
Everyone who edits or views the report needs their own license — in practice, everyone you share it with. Assigned by an admin in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
30-day free trial
Activating a trial removes the notification for 30 days, so you can pilot the visual in a real, shared report.
